Description
Little Martins is a house dating from around 1600, which was extended in the 19th century to form a row of cottages that are now combined. The building is timber framed, roughcast rendered, and weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. It has four bays facing northwest and features an axial stack. The right side was extended in the 19th century, which includes another axial stack. The 19th-century extension is made of red brick and has a corner stack, and it is combined with an adjacent 20th-century extension that has a catslide roof. There is also a 20th-century extension with a catslide roof on the rear left. The house is one storey with attics and has five 20th-century casements, along with four additional casements in gabled dormers. The entrance is located in the rear right extension. The original building features jowled posts, heavy studding with curved braces that are trenched to the inside, an inserted floor made of chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops, and plain joists with both horizontal and vertical sections. The walls were raised approximately 0.80 metre in the 17th century.
