Description

Three Ashes Farmhouse is a mainly 17th-century house, altered in the 20th century, and now divided into two cottages. It is timber-framed with plaster rendering, and has a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with wings extending to the south and west. An axial stack is located in the south wing. Single-storey and two-storey lean-to extensions to the north form catslides and enclose another stack. A single-story extension is present to the west, with an end stack. A 20th-century lean-to porch is situated in the southwest angle. The south elevation, facing the road, has scattered 20th-century windows and a 20th-century door. The east elevation has a two-window range of mid-19th-century sash windows of six lights, along with 20th-century casements on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Internal features of the east cottage include jowled posts, chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops, face-halved and bladed scarfs in wallplates, and short high braces to one tiebeam.
