Description
Oak Cottages is a range of cottages, now consisting of two, that dates back to the 17th century and was altered in the 20th century. The cottages are timber framed, plastered, and weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The structure has a four-bay range facing southeast with a central stack, and a three-bay range facing northeast, featuring an 18th or 19th-century internal stack at the junction, creating an L-shaped plan. The cottages are one storey high with attics.
No. 1, which faces southeast, has four 20th-century casement windows, three additional casement windows in gabled dormers, and a 20th-century door located in a gabled porch. No. 2, facing northeast, features a three-window range of 20th-century casements and a 20th-century door in a trellised porch. Each stack has four octagonal shafts. Inside, there are chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops. At the junction of the two ranges, one beam is supported by an unusual Y-shaped post with an elaborately profiled head, which may have been introduced later. The roofs have clasped purlins.
