Description
The overflow sluice located 160 metres north-west of Stisted Mill dates from the 18th or 19th century. It is constructed from red brick in English bond, with oak and a mechanism made of cast iron. The brick structure features concave splays downstream and measures 4.72 metres across. It has a frame made of heavy oak timbers that holds three wooden gates, each measuring 1.13 metres in width, with an unknown depth. The gates slide in grooves that are 0.06 metre square, set in posts that are 0.29 metre square. Each gate is equipped with a spanner-operated rack and pinion lifting mechanism, complete with ratchets, although the rack for the middle gate is missing. The sluice also includes rear rollers that are 0.13 metre wide.
