Description
Great Loyes Farmhouse is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is timber framed, plastered, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building features parallel ranges that create a double-pile plan, facing southwest, with internal stacks arranged symmetrically. The rear range is from the 17th century or earlier, while the front range is from the 18th century. The farmhouse has two storeys and a three-window range of 20th-century sash windows. There is a six-panel door at the front, which is sheltered by a 20th-century flat-roofed porch. The roof is fully hipped. The farmhouse is located on a moated site. Additionally, smoke-blackened rafters found in the barn, located 70 meters to the south, may have originated from a medieval hall house that once stood on the same site.
