Description
This barn, located approximately 40 metres north of Taylor's Farm Cottages, dates back to the early 16th century and was extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a timber frame, is weatherboarded, and has a shingle roof. The original structure consists of four bays aligned east to west, with a mid-18th century midstrey on the south side. An additional four bays were added to the east in the 18th century, which includes a midstrey on the north side.
The original barn has jowled posts and heavy studding with 'Suffolk' bracing that is trenched to the outside. The wallplates feature edge-halved and bridled scarfs, and there are arched braces, along with one replaced straight brace, supporting the tiebeams. In the 20th century, the roof was raised by approximately 0.50 metre and rebuilt using softwood. The eastern extension has unjowled posts, primary straight bracing, bolted knees to the tiebeams, and its walls and roof were similarly raised and rebuilt.
