Description
Abbotsmead is a house built in the 19th century. It is constructed of painted brick and has a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The main part of the house faces south and features one axial stack, while there is a wing at the rear right that also has an axial stack, along with a lower extension beyond it. The house has two storeys.
On the ground floor, there are two late 19th-century splayed bay windows with sash windows arranged in a 2-4-2 light configuration. The first floor has four late 19th-century sash windows with four lights each. External louvred shutters are present on either side of the bays and on three of the first-floor windows. The house features two gables adorned with late 19th-century carved bargeboards, pendants, and finials, including one on the left end.
The entrance includes a 20th-century door set within a 19th-century doorcase that has panelled jambs and soffit, fluted pilasters, and heavy carved brackets supporting a gabled canopy with carved bargeboards, along with a turned pendant and finial. There is also a plain boarded door at the left end. The building is included for its group value.
