Description
A range of three attached cottages dating from the 19th century. The cottages are built of painted brick, with a roof of handmade red plain tiles. There is a passage between numbers 49 and 51. A shared axial stack is located between numbers 51 and 53.
At the rear of number 49, there is a two-storey lean-to extension with a felt roof, and a single-storey extension beyond with a slate lean-to roof, both constructed of weatherboard. A two-storey weatherboarded wing with a roof of red clay Roman tiles was added to the rear of number 51 in 1986. A single-storey lean-to extension with a slate roof extends from the rear of number 53.
Number 49 has a late 19th century sash window of four lights on each floor, and a 20th century six-panel door with two glazed panels. Number 51 has a late 19th century tripartite sash window on the ground floor, reduced to four-over-two lights; a late 19th century sash window of four lights on the first floor; and a 20th century six-panel door. A plain door provides access to the passage. Number 53 has a late 19th century tripartite sash window of two-over-four-over-two lights on the ground floor, a late 19th century sash window of four lights on the first floor, and a 20th century six-panel door. All ground-floor windows have a gauged flat arch, while all first-floor windows have a segmental arch. The cottages are included on the list for their group value.
