Description

1 The Chase is a cottage from the 18th century, constructed with a timber frame and roughcast render, topped with a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The building has two bays facing southwest and features an axial stack at the right end. There is a parallel range at the rear, where the right bay is part of this cottage, while the left bay is partly incorporated into No. 76 (Western Cottage) on High Street. At the back, there is a weatherboarded single-storey lean-to extension. The cottage is adjacent to No. 76 on the left and No. 2 The Chase on the right. It is one storey high with attics, and on the ground floor, there is one 19th-century and one 20th-century casement window. The lean-to dormers also contain one 19th-century and one 20th-century casement window. The entrance features a boarded door with a single light and a simple canopy supported by profiled brackets. There is a plastered recess at the right end, which indicates a blocked doorway or through-passage.
