Description

This is a house, originally built in the 15th or early 16th century, and later converted into three cottages during the 19th century. It is timber-framed and has been plastered over, with a roof of handmade red clay tiles and stacks of gault brick. The house comprises a hall range facing north, with a 19th-century brick stack in the centre, and two wings extending forward. These wings join to form a “half-H” shaped layout, with a 19th-century internal stack in each wing where they meet. A 20th-century single-storey extension with a felt roof is located to the right. The house is one storey high with attics. On the ground floor are three 19th-century casement windows and one 20th-century window (in number 47). The first floor has two 19th-century casement windows, with two additional windows set within gabled dormers. A central 19th-century boarded door provides access to the main entrance. A 20th-century half-glazed door is located on the return side of the left wing (number 43), and a 20th-century casement window is on the return side of the right wing (number 47). The first floor is contained within the gables of the crosswings, with a lodged floor on wallplates within the hall.
