Description

Nos 21 and 22, Clockhouse Way, are a pair of cottages built after 1918 by CHB Quennell and WF Crittall. They were designed to demonstrate a modular system of concrete block construction, developed by Crittall Manufacturing Company in response to the need for affordable housing following the First World War. The cottages are one of two largely unaltered examples of this system, alongside Nos 156-158 Cressing Road.

The cottages are constructed from concrete blocks and have a flat roof. They are two storeys high, with each house being three windows wide. The central bay of each house is recessed to accommodate the entrance. The windows are square-headed and have metal frames. The building features a moulded cornice and a parapet.
