Description

Goldington's Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century or earlier, and altered in the 20th century. It is timber-framed, with plaster walls and a thatched roof. The original form comprised three bays facing southeast, with a small lean-to extension to the rear. A one-bay extension was later added to the right, alongside a 20th-century external stack at the end. A large external stack at the left end was rebuilt in the 20th century, and a further 20th-century single-storey extension exists beyond. The cottage has one storey with attics. The front has three horizontal sash windows with 24 lights each, two 20th-century casements, and three casements within gabled dormers. The rear elevation features three 20th-century casements, further casements in gabled dormers, an exposed 16th-century chamfered plinth made of red brick in English bond, and an exposed original groundsill. Internally, the studding is exposed, along with chamfered axial and transverse beams with plain horizontal joists. A chamfered mantel beam has been re-fitted in the rebuilt end hearth. Original wattle and daub infill remains in a partition wall. The roof was not inspected. In 1960, the exterior was weatherboarded. Previously known as Goldington's Farmhouse.
