Description

This is a barn located 20 metres northwest of Stock Street Farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century and altered in the 18th century. It is timber framed with tarred elm weatherboards and has a roof made of corrugated asbestos. The barn consists of seven bays aligned east-west, featuring one midstrey to the north and one to the south. There is a 19th-century lean-to extension on the south side of the eastern part of the main range, along with 20th-century lean-to extensions to the north and west. The roof is half-hipped at both ends.

The three eastern bays were originally aisled to the north, with straight arcade braces that have since been infilled with nailed girts and studding. The eastern and southern sections have jointed and pegged girts and studding. The posts are jowled, with the jowls cut back, and bolted knees replacing the former arched braces to the tiebeams. The three western bays also have jowled posts and retain their original jointed and pegged girts and studding.

The northern midstrey is a separate structure with unjowled posts and jointed and pegged girts and studding, likely added in the later 17th century. The southern midstrey is an 18th-century addition, with wallplates that are continuous with the 18th-century tiebeams on either side of the central bay, featuring face-halved and bladed scarfs. The farm buildings adjacent to the south of the western part of the main range are not included in this listing.
