Description
The White Hart Inn is a 15th-century hall with cross wings, constructed from timber framing and plaster, with some areas featuring brick cladding. The hall's roof was raised in the 16th century, and an inserted floor was added. The building has two storeys and tiled roofs, with the upper storey of the cross wings projecting and gabled. It underwent extensive alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. The windows are double hung sash with glazing bars, and there is a central two-storey bay window topped with a semi-hexagonal roof. The inn features very fine bargeboards from around 1600, intricately carved with a vine motif. The bases of the apex finials are of a similar date, although the eaves pendants are modern. At the rear, there is a jettied wing. Inside, much of the original frame remains, including crown post roofs.
