Description
This is an ancillary building dating from around 1600, located 3 metres north-west of Rook Hall Farmhouse. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The building consists of two bays aligned approximately northeast to southwest, featuring a catslide extension to the northwest that encloses a stack, and a smaller one-bay extension to the southwest. The main part of the building has two storeys and an attic, while the extension has one storey and an attic.
At the time of the survey in October 1986, the northeast elevation was undergoing alterations, with one window in each storey and one in the attic gable. The entrance is located in the left return. Notable architectural features include jowled posts, straight bracing inside heavy studding, plain joists of vertical section, and a clasped purlin roof. Inside, there is a large bread oven with a barrel-vault roof and a wrought iron door featuring the original latch, which dates from the 18th century. The rear extension also displays jowled posts and a clasped purlin roof.
