Description

This is an 18th-century barn located approximately 45 metres north east of Graves Hall. The barn has a timber internal frame set within flint walls with red brick dressings. The roof is half-hipped and covered in red pantiles, with two hipped midstreys projecting with overhanging eaves on the west side, and two catslide porches on the east side. There are full-height vertically boarded doors. Architectural details include a red brick cornice, a central band, and a plinth. The barn is divided into eight bays, with red brick pilasters between the bays and in the corners. Each bay features symmetrically placed two- or four-light red brick ventilator slits above the central band, along with loft doors to the return walls. Internally, there are arched braces to the top plates and tie beams, intermittent collars to the side purlin roof, and halved and bladed scarfs to the top plates. The barn is considered attractive and a good example of its type.
