Description
The Baptist Church is a Nonconformist chapel built in 1810, with significant alterations made in 1830, 1917, and 1932. It is constructed of gault brick and features a low-pitched hipped slate roof. The building has two storeys, with three windows from around 1917 that have stone surrounds located on the first floor, and two similar windows at ground level flanked by two doorways from the same period. Near the left-hand doorway, the brick is inscribed with "R.A." and "1810." The adjoining school room on the right is likely mostly from 1917 and replaced a 19th-century vestry, also made of gault brick.
Inside, the chapel has undergone various alterations. It is galleried on three sides, although the gallery has been reset. The pulpit and immersion chamber are located at the west end, with two doorways leading from the schoolroom, which was formerly the vestry. The chapel contains several monuments, including those for Alice, wife of Nathaniel Gifford (1835), Nathaniel Gifford (1845), Sarah (Lee), wife of Benjamin Cattell (1818), Rev. Thomas Lee, pastor (1806), Elizabeth, widow of Thomas Lee (1816), George Prudden (1837), and Susanna, wife of George Prudden (1828).
