Description
Croft House is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a small 20th-century extension on the right side. The building is timber framed and plaster rendered, featuring infill partly made of clay bat at one gable end. It has a thatched roof made of combed wheat reed, with a grey gault brick ridge stack that has three shafts set diagonally. The original layout consists of a single range of three rooms, along with a narrower lobby entry and chimney bay. A kitchen was later added at the rear, but this has since been demolished. The cottage is two storeys high and has three windows on the first floor, including one small closet opening and one in the hall bay, both in their original openings. The ground floor has three windows that replaced 18th- and 19th-century horizontal sliding sashes. There is a 20th-century gabled porch at the front.
Inside, the abutting inglenook hearths in the hall and parlour have been sealed, and the chamber above the parlour originally had a hearth. The framing features wide spaces between the studs and straight downward bracing. There is a single doorway between the hall and the service bay, separated by a partition wall. The main beam in the parlour is stop-chamfered.
