Description
Nos. 63 and 65 on Pierce Lane are a row of cottages, now functioning as two separate dwellings, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. They were extended or rebuilt at the road end in the early to mid-19th century. The cottages are timber framed, rendered, and topped with a thatched roof made of combed wheatreed. There are two ridge stacks; one features an 18th-century red brick base with gault brick upper courses, while the other is made of grey gault brick, similar to Croft House on Pierce Lane. The layout consists of a single range with the gable end facing the road. The buildings are one storey with an attic, featuring two dormers, two windows, and a gabled porch at the entrance. The 19th-century brick addition or rebuild at the road has a steeply pitched tiled roof, is also one storey with an attic, and includes one horizontal sliding sash window above a doorway and a recessed window in the gable end.
