Description

The war memorial in Histon was built in 1920 and is made of Portland stone ashlar. Designed by ex-Lieutenant F. Baccus, who was a sculptor and monumental mason from Histon, the memorial takes the form of a wayside cross and stands on an octagonal stepped plinth. The faces of the plinth feature cusped panels with inscriptions that include the names of the Fallen from the parishes of Histon and Impington. Rising above the plinth, the octagonal shaft forms a cross, with the arms linked by a wreath. The memorial also lists the names of those who fell in the Second World War. This well-designed structure is located next to Homefield Park.
