Description

The Old Rectory is a cottage that was formerly the rectory until around 1840. It dates from the early 16th century and 17th century, with a 19th-century addition. The building is timber-framed with plastered infill and a plaster-covered exterior, finished with slated roofs. It stands two storeys high and features a jettied cross wing made up of two timber-framed bays. There is a 17th-century outshut to the west that houses the staircase, and evidence of the main range can be seen in the rear elevation, which has been replaced by a 19th-century extension of one bay.

The original window opening, possibly an oriel, is flanked by four jetty brackets that spring from slender wooden pilasters, with a doorway to the left. The door has carved spandrels and a four-centred arch, which may have been added later; the modern 20th-century boarded door is located in the original window position. Above the entrance, there is a 20th-century casement window on the first floor. The 19th-century extension includes one first-floor casement window and one four-paned hung sash window. The building has a gable end stack to the east and a side stack to the south.

Inside, the structure features an exposed floor frame and timber framing with cranked braces supporting the tie beam in the central truss.
