Description
The Hardwicke Arms Public House is a building dating from 1703, with alterations made to the front in the late 19th century. It is constructed of brick, which has been painted white, and features a slate roof that has a lower pitch at the front due to a roof raise in 1870. A square red brick ridge stack with four flues is located at the top, and there is a recessed panel on the front displaying the date 1703 and the initials WCM. The upper brick courses have been rebuilt.
The building is a single range with a late 19th-century wing at the rear. The front has four recessed window openings fitted with 20th-century leaded lights. Three of these openings have segmental arches and are flanked by three-light casements beside a baffle entry doorway. On the first floor, there is a brick inscribed with the initials JW and the date 1870, likely marking the time of the roof raise and the rebuilding of the front wall.
