Description

Manor Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the early 18th century, with early and late 19th century alterations and additions, and a 20th century renovation and addition. It is constructed of red brick, with a rear section that is timber-framed and plastered, as well as gault brick. The roofs are plain tiled and slated. The building is two storeys high with an attic, and features a main range and a two-storey rear wing that form an L-shape.

The façade has five symmetrical bays, with parapet gables and end stacks. The left-hand stack has a gable wall that has been partly rebuilt, while the right-hand stack is panelled with a cornice. There is a band between the floors and a plinth at the base. The eaves cornice is moulded in wood and features dentil enrichment. The entrance has fluted pilasters supporting a wooden doorcase with a Doric entablature, a rectangular fanlight, and a recessed glazed six-panelled door. The ground floor has four flush-framed twelve-paned hung sash windows, and there are five similar windows on the first floor, all set in gauged red brick arches. Additionally, there are three hipped dormer windows with horizontal sliding sashes.

Inside, the entrance hall is paved with stone flags. A partition made of 17th century panelling has been resited within the house. The chimney stack and doorcase inside are similar to those found at Tan House on South End in Bassingbourn-cum-Kneesworth.
