Description

The Manor House is a building dating from around 1600, with extensions made in the 18th century. It features a timber frame that is plaster rendered, and has tiled roofs with two ridge stacks, one of which is shafted. The house is designed in an H-plan, with a parallel range of 17th-century outbuildings at the rear that were linked to the main house in the 18th century. It stands two storeys high, with the central block displaying a low parapet and a modillion cornice that returns to the wings. The front facade has a window arrangement of two, three, and two double-hung sashes, each with a single central vertical glazing bar. The central doorway is framed by a shouldered doorcase. The rear range is also timber framed, rendered, and tiled, with an 18th-century stair house that is framed and rendered, and features a Palladian window in the west wall.

Inside, the house contains 18th-century details, including a paved hall with black setts at the corners and a stair house that connects the front and rear ranges. The open-string staircase is accessed through a screen with an elliptical arch, supported by panelled pilasters and a raised keyblock. The staircase has three flights, with a moulded and swept rail, column-on-vase balusters, scrolled tread ends, and a curtail. There is a raised and fielded panelled dado, and the ceiling of the stair hall features 18th-century plasterwork, including a cornice with egg and dart moulding and a circular main panel adorned with acanthus leaves radiating from a lamp hook. Additional 18th-century details include fielded panelling in a ground floor room, a Palladian window in the west front, and two fireplaces in the north end rooms that have moulded surrounds and panelled overmantels with cornices. The Manor House is situated on a moated site.
