Description

Red Cottage is a house, originally built as the village pest house in 1748. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tiled roof, featuring tumbled parapet gables and a stack behind the ridge. The house has a gable facing the street. Architectural details include a brick cornice and band at eaves height to the gable. The south-east facing elevation originally had two ground floor and three first floor windows; these have been replaced with 20th-century windows. A 20th-century flat-roofed glazed porch with a half-glazed door faces south-west. The pest house served to isolate individuals suffering from infectious diseases within the parish.
