Description

Richmonds is a house built in 1848 for J.J. Holme, a surgeon. It features a timber frame with plastered margins and panels of roughcast render, topped with low pitched slate roofs. The building has two internal gault brick stacks and is two storeys high with a double pile plan. The symmetrical main facade is accessed by stone steps leading to double half-glazed doors, which are framed by a pilastered doorcase and topped with a flat canopy supported by shaped brackets. There are two twelve-paned flush-framed hung-sash windows on both the ground and first floors. The house was once owned by Dr W.M. Palmer, an antiquarian who died in 1939, and it is located on a site that was previously owned by the Richmond family, known for their tanning business.
