Description
Denny Abbey Refectory is a refectory of a Franciscan nunnery built around 1340, currently undergoing restoration by the Department of the Environment as of 1984. The structure is made from Barnack and ashlar limestone and is unroofed. It features five windows on the north wall, each with two trefoiled lights and quatrefoils. The south wall was rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries, while the west wall dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. Before 1730, the building was converted into an eight-bayed barn with a thatched roof. A wall painting was recorded by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments around 1970. The building is Crown Property and is designated as a scheduled Ancient Monument.
