Description

White Horse Cottage is a late 17th-century inn, later converted into a house, located on the west side of May Street, Chishill. The building comprises two ranges, with 19th and 20th-century alterations. It is timber-framed with clay battening and a rendered finish, featuring a high brick plinth. The right-hand range has a thatched roof, while the left-hand range has a low-pitched slated roof. A plastered red brick stack is positioned at the junction between the two ranges. There are four three-light casement windows on the ground floor and four smaller windows on the first floor. Two 20th-century doors are situated to the left and right. The range on the right may be older, including a rear outshut. The range on the left is raised over a cellar, with an external entrance from the street. The interior features chamfered cross beams and axial beams, back-to-back hearths with a baking oven, and an inglenook.
