Description
The Maltings is a late 17th-century farmhouse that has been divided into two cottages. It has undergone alterations and additions in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with an original plastered panel displaying a lozenge shape featuring flower bosses surrounding a thistle with a crown head, and bearing the date 1675. Later 18th-century plasterwork is found in the passageway and a rear extension. Some of the exterior is red brick and weatherboarding. The roof is thatched on the left-hand side and low-pitched slate on the right. A tall red brick ridge stack is present. The building is two storeys high, originally comprising three units, extended to both sides, and later partly reroofed. There is a single-storey rear extension. Two entrances have panelled and boarded doors, one on either side. The front has two twelve-paned flush-framed windows and one casement window, and three horizontal sliding sash windows are on the first floor.
