Description

The Forge and two cottages adjoining are a cottage group dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, located on Bartlow Hadstock Road in Bartlow. The main cottage range is timber-framed and rendered, with a tiled roof and a ridge stack, along with a later projecting side stack to the crosswing. The 16th-century crosswing is jettied at the first floor, supported by curved brackets. It has modern casement windows to the gable end on both the first and ground floors. The main range, dating to the 17th century, features two modern casement windows on each floor. A baffle entry doorway is also present. Adjoining the main cottage are a pair of 18th–19th-century timber-framed cottages with long straw thatch roofs. These cottages share a ridge stack which has since been removed. They are one storey high, with an attic space and two dormers. Each cottage has a single window and a door.
