Description
Maltings Cottage, now comprising two dwellings and a shop, is a house dating from the 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame, which has been plastered and pargetted, and has a tiled roof, hipped at the south end. A ridge stack consists of grouped shafts set diagonally, with a later projecting stack at the south end. The building is a single range of four bays. The first floor is jettied on the side facing the road, supported by curved brackets. The first floor has five windows, including two 18th-century leaded light casements. The ground floor has three double-hung sash windows with glazing bars and three doorways, one being a house entrance with a six-panelled door. Inside, there are braced tie beams and a central room featuring close-set studwork, with inglenooks that have been partly curtailed and sealed back to back. There are quartered ceiling beams with moulded joists laid flat, alongside main beams.
