Description

Chalk Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations and additions made in the early 19th century. It has a timber frame with plastering and features a plain tiled hipped roof, a tall rectangular ridge stack, and a rear stack. The building is two storeys high with cellars and has an L-shaped plan.

The symmetrical facade facing the street consists of three bays, featuring a six-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight, a pilastered doorcase with panelled reveals, and a flat canopy. There are two three-light hung sash windows on the ground floor and three flush-framed sixteen-paned hung sash windows above. The ceiling line in the north-west room intersects with the window. The original hall and cross-wing plan was remodeled in the 19th century, and there were additions made to the south; it is possible that the house originally jettied out towards the street.
