Description

The stable range and offices, located to the north-west of the stable yard at Odsey Grange, date from around 1705 and have been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. Constructed of local red brick, the building features a plain tiled hipped roof with a saw tooth brick eaves cornice and three rebuilt ridge stacks. It is two storeys high and forms a long range along the south-west and north-east sides of the original stable yard.

On the ground floor, there is a blocked segmental headed archway on the left with an inserted six-panelled door, along with two partly reconstructed archways that have double boarded doors. The ground floor also includes seven 20th-century casement windows and one early 18th-century casement window with leaded lights and a wooden lintel. The first floor has seven twenty-paned hung sash windows with near flush-frames.

Inside, the first floor accommodation was likely intended for jockeys and grooms, while the ground floor fittings are from the 19th century, with a 20th-century garage. The right-hand side has been converted into an office in the 20th century. This stable range was part of the racing establishment owned by the Second and Third Dukes of Devonshire. It is believed that the stables were 'newly erected for race-horses' by Thomas Fountaine and John Duckett of Lincoln's Inn before 1705, prior to the sale of the property to Robert Chester.
