Description

The Thatch is a cottage, possibly dating to the early 16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with local brick walls and a large chimney on the east side. The roof is pantiled with a lean-to section, and covered with reed thatch. The cottage is one storey high, with an attic, and originally consisted of two rooms with an open hall, likely extended to the east. It has one dormer casement window, two fixed light ground floor windows, and a boarded front door.

Inside, the original timber frame is exposed, with a clunch internal partition. The original floor remains in the room to the west, featuring flat-laid joists; a 19th-century floor was added to the hall. A large inglenook hearth, dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, is also present.
