Description
This is an early 18th-century farmhouse situated on the east side of High Street in Offord Darcy. The building follows an L-shaped plan, incorporating a stair turret within the angle. A 19th-century addition extends to the rear. Constructed primarily of red brick, the farmhouse has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with tumbled gable ends and end stacks. It is two storeys high with an attic, marked by a band separating the ground and first floors. Two gabled dormers are visible. The front facade features a range of four 19th-century recessed sash windows with glazing bars. Three similar windows have curved tops, and a centrally positioned door is set beneath a cambered arch. The entrance is framed by a panelled door. A 19th-century addition, built with gault brick and having a dentil cornice, extends to the north. This addition is single-storey and features a segmental arch marking the outline of a blocked carriageway opening that now contains a hung sash window. Inside, a notable early 18th-century staircase rises over four flights and a landing, incorporating a closed string, square newel posts, and turned balusters. An inglenook fireplace is located in a ground floor room to the north, and another fireplace, now sealed, is present in the rear range. Original doors and cupboards remain in rooms on both the ground and first floors.
