Description

The Horseshoe Inn is a hall house with a jettied crosswing, located in High Street, Offord Darcy. The building dates to the 17th century, with a carved date of 1626 on the jetty sill of the crosswing. It is timber-framed and has been roughcast rendered, with a plain tiled roof. There are ridge and end stacks, one later. The hall range is of one storey and attics, with a two-bay plan. Two 18th-century dormers are present, each containing a horizontal sliding sash window. At ground floor, there is one window and one splayed bay, both with horizontal sliding sash windows and glazing bars. The main entrance is opposite the stack. The crosswing is of two storeys and features one first-floor hung sash window with glazing bars, and a similar 18th-century splayed bay window at ground floor.

The hall interior has seen significant alteration, but the original wall plate in the West wall and the tiebeam between the bays remain visible. There is a sealed inglenook fireplace. The crosswing retains an inglenook, stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and middle rails. An original fireplace made of soft red brick is found in a first-floor room of the crosswing.
