Description

Number 35, The Town, is an early 16th century timber-framed and plastered building, possibly a cross-wing to an earlier structure, with an 18th century range added to the south. The building is constructed of local red brick, with a painted brick facade facing the street. The roof is tiled, hipped to the north with an end stack, and has a parapet gable to the south, and a ridge stack. It has an L-shaped layout and two storeys. The windows are later insertions, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, including three first-floor casement windows, two ground-floor hung sash windows with side lights, and one horizontal sliding sash window to the north. A half-glazed six-panelled door and a stable door provide access. A band separates the floors, and a brick plinth is present at ground level. The interior retains an original inglenook hearth, chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops and some 17th century panelling.
