Description
This is a mid-17th century house and shop with alterations dating to around 1900 and 1980. The building is constructed of limestone rubble with freestone quoins and window dressings. It has a chamfered plinth and a 20th-century red pantiled roof, with a brick end stack on the south side and brick courses below the eaves. The house is one storey and attic. On the front, a boarded shop door is to the left and a house door to the right, alongside a 20th-century shop window and two ground floor, and three attic dormer windows, all with four-paned sash windows. The east and west gable elevations each contain two original windows with ovolo moulding and stone pediments; the window on the west gable is now blocked with bricks. Inside, the two main rooms feature stop-chamfered ceiling beams. A central hearth has been rebuilt, and the chimney reduced, while a large hearth at the east end retains its original mantel beam. There are also two floor stone chimney pieces with moulded jambs and a pointed four-centred head. Some original 17th-century panelling is visible in the shop.
