Description
Two coffin lids are located about one and a half metres south of the south aisle of the Parish Church of St Mary. The lids date from the late 13th century and one is dated 1681. They are made of limestone. The late 13th century lid features a coped top and a carved cross with foliate ends. The other lid has a deep inscribed inscription on one face of its tapered coping, which reads, "HERE LYETH INTERNED THE BODY OF ALICE FOX WHO DEPARTED - - 1861 IN THE 14 YEAR OF HER AGE."
