Description
Hilton Hall is an early 17th-century house with a 18th-century facade, situated on the south side of Hilton High Street. The house is constructed of red brick, originally colour-washed, and has an old tile roof with a parapet and parapet gables. Projecting end stacks feature recessed panels. It is three storeys high. The second and first floors have a three-window range of hung sashes with glazing bars recessed in segmental headed arches, with flanking blind openings at the first floor. A band course runs between the first and ground floors. The ground floor features a pair of hung sashes flanked by blind openings on each side of a modern two-panelled door with a glazed upper half. The interior includes a fine early 17th-century staircase of six flights, and 18th-century panelling in the hall. Moulded beams are present with elaborately decorated stops. A modern single-storey extension to the rear incorporates 18th-century panelling that was removed from Park Farm, Hilton, which has since been demolished. A low 18th-century wall and two square red brick gate piers define the forecourt; the piers are topped with ball finials. Wrought iron gates, dated 1845, complete the forecourt.
