Description
The Church of St Peter is a small 13th-century parish church located on Old Hurst Church Street. It features a nave and chancel under a continuous roof, constructed from pebble-rubble and freestone with Ketton and Barnack stone dressings, and has a plain tiled roof. The west window consists of two pointed lights set in a two-centred arch with a moulded label. The gable end has two modern recesses for bells.
On the south wall, there are three windows: two with two pointed lights and a quatrefoil in a two-centred head, both featuring moulded labels and mask stops, and one plain lancet. The south doorway has two moulded orders, with the inner order being trefoiled and the outer two-centred, supported by attached shafts with moulded capitals and bases.
The east wall was rebuilt in 1903, during which a late 13th-century window was reset, featuring two pointed lights and a quatrefoil in a two-centred head with a moulded label and mask stops. A modern north vestry has been added. Inside the chancel, there is a late 12th-century piscina pillar, and the church has a 13th-century font with an octagonal basin, each face adorned with three light window tracery, supported by a central octagonal stem and eight attached shafts with moulded capitals and bases on a common plinth.
