Description

Numbers 1-8 George Street comprise an almshouse row seemingly built in two phases, around 1846 and approximately 1851, although the design presents a balanced appearance. The building is constructed in Tudor style, using gault brick with stone dressings. It is a two-storeyed range of 3, 2, and 3 bays, with the central section being taller. The building is flanked by octagonal castellated turrets and features a paired gable. Each almshouse has one window, a 2-light casement with a dripmould, and a continuous dripmould on the ground floor. There is a plank door. The roof is slate-covered, with grouped round shafted chimneys.
