Description
Nos 3 to 5 The Causeway is a single building located on Cambridge Street, dating from the late 18th century. It is two storeys high, constructed of red brick with a tiled roof, and features hung sash windows on the upper floor. The building includes two Venetian windows, one of which is on the Cambridge Street elevation and has glazing bars. The doorcase on Cambridge Street is adorned with panelled pilasters, an entablature, and an ornamental fanlight above a six-glazed panel door. The right-hand Venetian window has been converted into a shop window, with a central door and fanlight. The first floor has tripartite windows, and there are brick stacks present. The building has seven windows in total, including one Venetian window. The front now accommodates modern shops and a bank, and there is a carriage arch with a keystone and impost blocks. Historically, this building served as the coaching inn of Godmanchester.
