Description
No. 47 High Street is a former tap room of the George Hotel, which was once a coaching inn and is now a dwelling. The original timber-framed building, possibly dating from the late medieval period, consists of four bays and was likely aisled or galleried. It has two storeys and features a cartway on the west side. The roof is gabled and covered with plain tiles, and there are two ridge stacks. The north-facing facade is rendered and includes four first-floor hung sash windows with glazing bars, along with early 19th-century three-light hung sash windows with glazing bars to the right of a round-headed panelled door. On the west side, there are two hung sash windows with glazing bars. Inside, the building boasts a large inglenook hearth, stop-chamfered ceiling beams, and an exposed timber frame.
