Description
Nos. 41, 43, and 45 High Street were formerly part of the east range of The George Hotel, which was a coaching inn, and they share a common street facade. The buildings are constructed of red brick with plain tile roofs that have stone copings at the parapet. They rise to three storeys, featuring bands at each floor and a brick plinth. There are two blind windows and five second-floor hung sash windows with glazing bars set in gauged brick arches. The first floor has seven similar windows.
No. 41 has shallow bayed shop windows with glazing bars and a cornice, flanking a half-glazed door that was inserted around 1920. The mid-19th century shop window and door of No. 43 feature a common entablature with plain pilasters and frieze. The shop to the north, No. 45, is similar to No. 43 but has a replacement window and door.
Inside No. 41, there is a fine 18th-century staircase consisting of four flights.
