Description
Stanley Farmhouse is a circa 1700 L-plan farmhouse located on the Old Hurst Road, Pidley. The building is constructed of red brick with plain tiled roofs. The front has a hipped roof with a modillion eaves cornice, while the sides and rear have a dentil eaves cornice. Brick stacks are located at the ends and ridge of the roof.
The farmhouse is two storeys and has attics, with a band course marking the floor level. The symmetrical front elevation features five hung sashes with open boxing, slender glazing bars, and segmental heads, all within gauged brick segmental arches. A central doorway is framed by a moulded architrave and a flat canopy supported by scroll brackets. The door itself consists of six raised and fielded panels, topped with two glazed upper lights.
The East room on the first floor retains its original raised and fielded panelling, divided into two heights with a moulded cornice and dado. A mid-18th century staircase, featuring an open string with turned and fluted balusters to each tread and a panelled dado, connects the floors. A circa 1700 back staircase is present, characterized by its flat section and twisted balusters. A 19th-century wing extends from the rear angle of the building.
