Description
Two chest tombs and two tombstones are located 2 metres south of the chancel of the Parish Church of St Mary. These tombs date from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries and are made of limestone.
The first chest tomb features a deep chamfered monolithic lid and is inscribed with the words 'HERE LYETH THE BODY OF WILLIAM RANDOL LATE OF STILTON YEOMAN WHO DEPARTED THIS ---E THE - OF SEPTEMBER 1613'. The second chest tomb has a chamfered cover and plinth, with corner pilasters that display a Greek fret motif. It is inscribed to Bratfield Pitts from 1826 and to Ann Pitts from 1820.
The first tombstone has a shaped head with a carved angel head and wings, inscribed to John, son of John Seymour, from 1739. The second tombstone features a segmental head, an oval medallion, and a shaped plaque, although the inscription is unclear.
