Description

No. 55 on Elm Road is a late 18th-century house with mid 19th-century extensions. It is built of local brown brick and features a hipped slate roof with end stacks. The house has a symmetrical two-storey facade with five bays. The windows are recessed twelve-paned hung sashes set in cambered gauged brick arches. Stone steps lead up to a pilastered doorcase that holds a six-panelled door topped with a patterned fanlight. A wooden trellised porch with a tented lead canopy, added in the mid 19th century, enhances the entrance. Inside, many of the details, including doors and doorcases, are primarily from the mid 19th century. A late 18th-century chimney piece has been taken from a house on North Brink.
