Description

No. 8 Norfolk Street is a small shop dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is timber-framed and features a thatched roof, although the street facade has been significantly altered by a large shop window. The building has one storey and an attic, with a side passage on the left-hand side. There is a thatched dormer window. Inside, the main ceiling beam and floor joists are exposed. This building is included for its historic value as the only remaining thatched structure of its kind, similar to those photographed by Sam Smith around 1850, which are part of the collection at the Wisbech and Fenland Museum.
