Description
The former lock-up, located about 50 yards south-west of the Swan Inn, was built in 1816, as indicated by the stone plaque on the north gable end. The building features a roof topped with a clock turret, which was added to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. Originally a lock-up, it was later converted into a fire engine house. The structure is made of local brick and has a slate roof with gable end parapets. The east wall displays a blind arcade consisting of three round-headed arches, while the north gable end has double doors for fire engine access. The wooden clock turret has a steeply pitched hipped roof, and instead of numerals, the clock face features the letters "SIXTY YEARS" and "V.R."
